Below I have four photographs. One is the weight plate of a 4 berth caravan, two are weight plates from cars. One of the cars is a Golf GTD and the other a BMW X5. The last is a flow diagram explaining BE licence rules. If the GTD is used to tow this caravan the driver does not have to have a BE licence as the combined MAM is below 3500kg at 3295kg.If the X5 is used to tow this caravan the driver does have to hold a BE licence as the combined MAM is over 3500kg at 4110kg. MAM is Maximum authorised mass. This is the heaviest weight it is ever allowed to be not the actual weight it is now. Most caravan users do not need a BE licence, it usually all depends on the vehicle being used to tow. Find your own vehicle/caravan weight limits and be sure you’re legal
